A terry or a footer cloth is a knitted fabric obtained by simultaneously tying the loop rows of platted weave and laying additional threads in them without subsequent tying the loop. This method of knitting gives the fabric smoothness on the front side and a characteristic, looped pattern on the inside.

Neither the time nor the place of the footer's invention is known for certain, but it is believed that the name originated from the German Futter – lining. This opinion is probably wrong, because in fact, the footer is an amazing knitwear.
