A pique is a knitted fabric of complex weave (using two weft threads), which forms a small relief pattern on the front surface.
From the inside out, the pique can have a fleece. The pattern of weaving can be different, one of the most popular weaves is short ribbing, forming a checkerboard pattern resembling a honeycomb.
The name of the material comes from the French piqué, which means to fasten, to stitch — an indication of the stitch-like structure of the material.
